AI and Us: Using AI Well
Bias, made up answers, deepfakes and privacy. Use AI with a clear head.

Lessons
- Where AI Already Is (5 min): Most AI has no chat box. It hides inside apps and makes predictions: is this your face, what will you watch, which word comes next.
- Bias: Whose Data? (7 min): Historical bias: a model learns from past decisions. If the past was unfair, the model learns that and repeats it.
- Hallucinations and Fact-Checking (6 min): A hallucination is a confident answer that isn't true. A chatbot picks likely next words; it doesn't look facts up unless a tool does that for it.
- Deepfakes and Media Literacy (7 min): A deepfake is AI-made media that shows something that never happened. Good ones pass a close look.
- Privacy: What You Give Away (7 min): What you type into an AI is sent to the company's servers. Copies can be stored, reviewed for safety, or used for training.
- Learning with AI, Not from It (7 min): Cognitive offloading: when a tool does the thinking, your work looks better but you learn less.
- Prompting as Clear Thinking (7 min): A model continues what you give it. A vague prompt leaves it guessing, so you get a random likely answer.
- Jobs and the Future (7 min): A job is a bundle of tasks. AI usually takes over some tasks, not whole jobs.
- Safety and Alignment (7 min): Alignment: getting an AI to do what people actually intend, not just what the rules literally say.
- Project: Write an AI Rulebook (8 min): A good rule says what's allowed, why, and how anyone can check it.
